WALES (1)
Wales - The Land of the Male Voice Choir. ---
What a wonderful way to start your day - Plus your cooked breakfast.
North Wales - LLANGOLLEN (pronounced - LLANGOTHLLEN - with the LL sounding like TH but with kkkkth (back of the throat sound) (sorry no offence to the Wonderful Friendly Welsh People)
Llangollen a beautiful small (busy in summer months) Town.
To me - the most appealing features are the Steam Railway,
The River Dee, and the Canal.
All run by the side of each other.
More info on all three with their own posts and Photos later on.
We had a most enjoyable week, it rained as we left Grantham.
We arrived at Llangollen dry but misty and cold.
The week just got better and better, from wet - to misty and cold - to cold and dull - to sunny spells and cold - to sunny and warmer weather.
There was some nights with frost, but soon vanished from the warmth of the sun as it rose higher in the sky.
Weather Wise -The best week of the year.
As my mate says - "You lucky B - you always pick em"
To be continued.
I know I could never pronounce the name of this town, but I can appreciate the beauty. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pictures from Wales.
ReplyDeleteIt must be a beautiful area ! we met a couple of welsh people in Egypt and she could pronounce that impossible long word for a little town, it was so funny ! We spend the whole holidays with them and their two children. We could play grandma and grandpa !
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful - giving such a good sense of the place.
ReplyDeleteYou look rather contented in your blog header, my friend! ;-)
Lovely pictures of Wales, I visited there many times as a child.
ReplyDeleteDid you go to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch?
Can't wait to see more.
Sunny :)
P.S. Looking at your header...have you achieved star status? He-he!
I really like the canal boats. The rest of the photos are nice as well.
ReplyDeleteMac: Fun visit to a great area of your country.
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to go to Wales someday. I like these pictures. Your header is really cool too. :)
ReplyDeleteI always think of Tom Jones when I think of Wales.
I guess I'd have a hard time to pronounce the name properly... By the way, your header picture is sooooooo funny!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
What a beautiful area. My husband was there a couple of years ago but didn't do any traveling. He worked with a group of fly fisherman/casters over there but said what he did see was beautiful.
ReplyDelete'Llan' means church of.
ReplyDeleteLlangollen ~ Church of Gollen.
:)
Welcome back
What a gorgeous place, Mac... Glad I don't have to pronounce that name!!!! Love the Canal boat... I'd love to take that ride... I would also love that Steam Railway. Glad the weather was so good for you!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear more about Wales.
Betsy

ReplyDeleteGreat captures from Wales. The canal boat shot is my fav :)
ReplyDeleteThe last time I was in wales was about 25 years ago. Stayed in a rented house in Llandudno. Went to Portmeirion, rode on a steam train and got a replica ticket from that long town name that no one can pronounce, but means something like the church by the river near the mountain next to the sky.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Stewart... I've been looking forward to these... as you know I've had the pleasure of seeing this area, and I've 'done' the Llangollan canal in a barge a year or so ago. I was looking at a barge last night thats moored there, it was on EBAY for £39,000 I can't buy it as I did not win the lottery.. ;o)
ReplyDeleteOh! These are stunning! Look at that sky behind the flag...and the engine...and my favorite is the third photo...I love the rolling waters of the stream/river. (I try to stay OUT of those waters if possible...but absolutely love the sound, the movement....and do love to feel the cold water (on my toes or fingers....just not too fond of being immersed in it!) Beautiful photo, Imac....just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your header isn't bad either!!
You are such a clever fella!
Smiles and hugs from Jackie
Enjoy your visit to Wales, I lived near Aberystwyth for 18 years and speak the language.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, but what I really want to know about is that header!
ReplyDeleteYour picture of the flowing river is a gorgeous one! We have some challenging place names in Ireland too - it's best to say them as quickly as possible!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely photos of the beautiful Wales. What a lovely holiday you had. I remember going to Aberystwyth(?) as a little girl. I met a Welsh lady where I worked a few years back. She had been over in the US for many years and I recognized her accent and asked her what part of Wales was she from. She was astonished and said I was the first person in years who knew she was Welsh and on telling her that my grandmother's maiden name was Jones, she said, "That explains it, you've got a little bit of Welsh in you, I can see it with that dark hair."
ReplyDeleteMy shoes and socks are off. Stinky loves the feel of ice cold water trickeling between his toes.
ReplyDeleteps - I, too, *love* the new header! lol
ReplyDeleteWhat great shots Mac! Thanks for the quick tour - I'm sure I couldn't pronounce that name even if I were game to try! ;o)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
I think my favorite would be the canal boats. So peaceful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice beginning of your trip and I am, for some strange reason, particularly fond of the steam engine shot. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
