Tree Rubbing.

DW doing her Tree Rubbings for her Mixed Media Art.
Julie is rubbing with crayons and silk, she then irons the silk so the crayon does not run. Then DW incorperates it into her sowing and stitching, incorperating a manner of different items, such as buttons, shells, twigs ect ect, to make wall hangers.

This is a new craft to me... how fascinating. I used to do all sorts of different crafts, and have many friends who also did... I say did as we are all not nimble fingered as we used to be.
I shall talk about this at our next coffee morning a week Wednesday.
Thanks for the pics.
Love Granny

This is also new to me, but I can see how a talented person like DW could make beautiful hangings incorporating these rubbings. Will you show a finished product?

Aaaaah, so THAT's a tree rubbing. (I thought tree rubbing is what bears do when their back itches.)

The look of her work is intriguing, and I like her use of color to make the lines pop out. There is a multidimensional quality about it.

Great work Julie! I loved it!
Years ago when I used to be a arts teacher and work with kids, we tried something like that. It's so relaxing and cool!

Thank you all for your lovely comments :o)

Granny I have joint pain in my fingers and thumbs so can't do all the things I'd like but this is fun. You could of course do texture rubbings on paper and use those in projects.

George, thank you! I have used one of these rubbings in a piece I'm working on. Probably won't get it finished for a week or so. The rest will sit in my fabric stash until I get inspired ;-)
