Grass Verge Fires

The problem that Steam Engines have is sometimes a spark will set the grass verges on fire, such thing happend on our our journey back from Grosmont to Pickering.
We suddenly stopped in the middle of the valley, folk rushed to the windows to see why we had stopped, there we all saw fires in the verges caused by a spark from the engine that passed us going the other way.
All the staff on the train got out with their beaters and after 20mins or so they had the fire under control.
For me -- what a photograpgic oppotunity it was.
We arrived safe and sound at Pickering about 30-40 mins late, but the fire had been stopped - thanks to all the staff from the train, and the Guard came round to say his sorries to all passengers for being late.
I think these men do a great job, and give lots of thrills to kids and adults alike.
Well done to all at N.Y.M.R.

This takes me back to when I was a small child Imac... ha! I didn'tthink my memory was that good.
This happed all the time behind out house, the sparks would be flying into the grass on the embankment and whoosh the flames would be alight and the Fire Brigade would turn up and do much the same as these chaps.

A great example of why it's always a good idea to carrying ones camera around with you wherever you go.
