HEADER CHALLENGE - 22-01-14
WILD ANIMALS by Christine
Watch my short film and let me know what you think?
My Header this week comes from Gibraltar
featuring - The Barbary Apes - Macaca Sylvanis - which are WILD Tail-less monkeys.
My Header
The Guardians of Gibraltar
sitting on the observation Platform over-seeing all they survey.
Let me tell you a few facts on these Monkeys and a little on Gibraltar.
These Wild monkeys are very tame - as you will have seen in the short film - they will pounce on you - if you are carrying any food with you - Thats why they are fed often by a scattering of fruit.
They look so cute - but be aware - at all times, I recommend that if you do visit Gibraltar, Walk or take the cable-Car to the top and see the amazing views of Gibraltar.
How did these Wild Monkeys arrive in Gibraltar?
There are a few stories on how - here's just one
Its said that Gibraltar is linked to Africa by a subterranean passage way - running over 15 miles long under the Strait of Gibraltar and maybe leads from St Michaels Cavern.
Here's St Michaels Cavern and its Stalagtites
Cave Art has been found dating back 15-20 thousand years old also 2 Skulls were found that tells That this Cavern could have been discovered and used as early as 40,000BC.
Here's the Famous Rock of Gibraltar - which has long been considered to be one of the Pillars of Hercules, what fantastic views we can see from here.
Here's the famous runway that has the main road crossing it also the border between Gibraltar and Spain.
To finish lets have another look at these cheeky Monkeys
Here we see Julie shaking a little with being so close, bless her.
Hope you all enjoyed my choice of Wild Animals - now go to my side bar - near my shield and see what the other Headbangers choice is.
GOOD LUCK

Looks great!!
Jackie
There was sure a lot more to see Stewart. I really enjoyed all your captures.
ReplyDeleteYou have somehow created a jump break in your post. Some bloggers will do it intentionally when they gave a very long post or to keep only snippets on the main page, but I don't know how you did it accidentally.
ReplyDeleteI remember the hotel we stayed in in India at the Tiger Reserve. There were signs in the rooms telling us not to leave windows open as we would have visitors when we were out--the monkeys.
Thanks for directing us to the "read more" feature. This was an entertaining post. (See how self-controlled I am that I do not make any wisecracks about self portraits?)
ReplyDeleteIt's always rewarding to visit your blog, Stewart!
May everything go smoothly for you this week. You'll be in my prayers, Friend.
Delightful little wild creatures! And sneaky also. Nice selection of images from the rock!
ReplyDeleteLove love love these images. Wow; what an amazing place to visit. You are so lucky to have been there!
ReplyDeleteLoved reading about these creatures...and how they came to be here.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame Julie one little bit.
Julie: I'm with you girl. Beware of the li'l monkeys. (Especially after I viewed the video.)
P.S. I love the accents (British accents.) I use to love them more (until I listened to Piers Morgan. He has turned me against the lovely accent. In effect, he's ruined it for me because I cannot stand the man.) Off the subject...but ranting a bit here. My apologies.
Lovely blog, my dear friend.
Jackie
