What do you know - its my choice this week - A Winters Setting Sun.
My Music this week is - Maui Sunset Song.
Listen as you enjoy as you read the wonder of the Header photo story.
My Header Photo is called = Grantham's Evening Call.
(( Im sorry my header photo is of a poor quality but - its film, old- taken around the late 1980s, been scanned, travelled BUT has History and holds a lot of memories close to my heart))
(((as you will now see)))
Granthams Evening Call
Taken in Queen Elizabeth Park - Grantham with a film Panaramic camera in the late 1980s -
0n Christmas Eve as the sun was setting and the mist swirling around, I love the reflection in the River Witham and the mist just adds to the touch, we also have St Wulframs church in the distance.
In November 1994 - I wrote a poem for this photo.
Called - Grantham's Evening Call
In 1995 there was an advert in the press, wanting Poems for a new book coming out later in the year,
so - I sent this poem in for checking and was excepted for print.
The book came out late 1995 - called Eastern England Poets, Published by Arrival Press and Edited by Suzy Goodall. - ISBN 1 85786 326 7
Cause I had to order one, didnt I,lol.
The Book contains 180 poems - all about our little piece of Eastern England.
( wonder how many sent in and were refused)
The Story continues
1999
As you know, I used to be a Porter at our local hospital, I was asked by a friend who knew I was into Photography who worked in Xray - if I would like to enter this photo competition for the Millennium year 2000.
This lady belongs on the committee for the Twinning Town of Grantham - which is twinned with Sankt Augustin in Germany - the competition was being held in Germany.
The Photo I selected was Granthams Evening Call, I had it mounted and gave it to my friend, who took it with her with lots more photos ------
On her return - I met my friend - who said she had news for me - I - had come 1st in the Photo competition.
Winner of the Millennium Year Twinning Town Photographer Gee whizz.
I received a framed certificate and had my name engraved on the Silver Platter, which you hold for a year.
Heres my Certificate.
So - this Header old Photo, has History, Has Travelled, also has many memories for me.
Now its 2013 - I have gone Digital - and have learned a lot on Taking photos all because
Ive got an eye for a photograph or so Im told.
Heres my Post Winter Sunsets

Some great sunsets! but my favourite has got to be the windscreen one!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a winner to me! As you note, photo and poem have been judged by others with keener eyes than mine. I would call the header a "Monet moment".
ReplyDeleteYour digital camera sunsets are absolutely glorious, but I will confess that I really like Grantham's Evening Call for both the story and the beauty.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Mac, enjoyed both your photos and your poems. What great remembrances.
ReplyDeleteThis old picture is just gorgeous. It looks like a painting from Turner. No wonder that you got the first price ! Congratulations !
ReplyDeleteI only started loving photography when it went digital ! I didn't like to buy a film put it in make dozens of pictures and only one was good, I did videos ! My son is a professional photographer and had studied photography at school. I always remember this awful smell when he developed his films !!
That's exciting to nab 1st place and get published, but I have to say that I'm not surprised in the least. You do have a keen eye for photography, and your images are a treat for me to see. I hope some of your skill rubs off on me!
ReplyDeleteYour panoramic header has a distant, nostalgic feel to it. I like it, not only for how it looks to me, but also for how it makes me feel.
I love the 1980's photo so much!
ReplyDeleteI'm proud of you, Stewart.
You are an artist indeed.
I always love to look at your work.
Hugs and smiles,
Jackie
A lovely vintage photo and storya nd poem as well. What can be better!
ReplyDeleteStrange, I've put a photo up tonight that's very similar to your winner. Not sure if it would win any prizes, but it is atmospheric
ReplyDeleteWow---I know why you are so proud of that header... It is awesome... Congrats...
ReplyDeleteBUT--times have changed in photography, haven't they? Your digital shots are awesome also...
Thanks for sharing.

This post is awesome. Your photo from back in the day is like a painting. And your poetry sure adds a lot to your already fabulous images.
ReplyDeleteLuv the header and all pics. Happy New Year fun friend :)
ReplyDeleteLove that panorama sunset and your poem! The pink skies are gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteLove this header! Gorgeous sunsets, too.
ReplyDeletethe header and the sunset shots are breathtakingly beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry it's been so long since I stopped by. Life just seems to get in the way. I enjoyed going back through your posts and seeing your photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the sunsets and the Evening Call story. Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful story! And yes you do have the "eye". My hubby bought me a new lens for my camera so I could take photos in a distance. I am still playing around with it, not sure what to do. I think I may need to take a class on how to use my camera. lol Or maybe just keeping taking shots and get a few GREAT ones by accident. lol YES I am still here and kicking.....will plan on visiting more often! I looked at my blog...and saw I have done this since 2006. I had NO idea! :) hope your well!
ReplyDeleteThat showed very clearly that you have "the Eye" (as if we didn't know ...). Congratulations on all the Kudos! Well deserved.
