Born Jessie Nevin 1925 in Essex.
Here's my 3rd post of MIL Jessie - and what she got up to in her younger years.
My 1st photo shows Jessie practicing her Acrobatics,
Jessie joined an Acrobatic Team called The Elite Six and performed on stage around the Country, until an accident to her anckle, which stopped her performing.
My 2nd Photos shows Jessie dancing.
Jessie joined a Dance Group called Clayton-Jackie-Rona(Jessie) touring and performing around the Country also.
Jessie once belonged a dance theatre group who also had The George Cole as a member.
Jessie appeared around the Country appearing in a dance group which appeared in The White Horse inn - in 1939, where Little Jessie Nevin did a Speciality Dance - with the Boys and Girls.
Also appearing in the White Horse Inn was a young Lady called - Gretchen Franklin (Ethel in Eastenders).
My MIL was doing real well and knew a few famous folk.
(click the photo - of the White Horse Inn and see if you know any more folk that appeared with her.)
Jessie Joined a Ballroom Dance club and danced her way through the certificates to reach the Gold awards.
1967 jessie and her DH won a dance competition at Butlins for the News of the World Newspaper.
After Jessies DH died, she joined many groups in Canvey from Flower arranging - dancing and many more
also made lots of friends and was popular where-ever she went.
Jessie started to go on Cruises with friends and also with a Dance Group.
The Lady (one of the leaders of the dance group) appeared on the TV program called The Chase not so long ago.
Jessie took a very large suitcase and many bags with her on the cruises, with many outfits, this photo shows just one outfit.
Im proud to be Jessies SIL.
God bless you Jessie.
She is a beautiful lady and this has to be one of the cruelest illnesses. My heart goes out to you and especially your dear wife Julie.
ReplyDeleteSo much grace in this post and in her personality!

Such a great story! How nice that we know something of her life
ReplyDeleteShe was a very busy young lady...I wonder if her joints hurt like mine..I was a gymnast for 12 years and then taught it and physical education at a private school.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post. Thanks for sharing this part of her wonderful life.
ReplyDeleteWow, Stewart... Your mother-in-law was quite a lady... She obviously has had a wonderful life.... Dementia is a terrible thing to happen--and I know you and Julie are very sad to see Jessie like this... BUT--the good news is that she has had a awesome life....
ReplyDeleteHugs and Prayers,
Betsy
What a nice post this is. Gymnasts are favorites of mine as I never could do those sorts of things and I admired anybody who could. Like football. Anybody who can run around for 90 minutes deserves all my respect.
ReplyDeleteDear Jessie, such a full life she's led. With much fun on the way do doubt. Hopefully she'll make many more friends when she comes to Grantham.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tribute imac, she must be one special lady!

Qite a talented lady and she knows how to enjoy life!
ReplyDeleteI can see Julie's resemblance.
ReplyDeleteOh my friend, I was so glad to be able to read this post and the comments. I guess I must have missed something in the past. I am so sorry for the illness in the family but your tribute to Jessie was so sweet! Having all those pictures must be so special! As a dancer myself until I married I never lost the love for it and all the performances I was in, my parents never took one picture. They probably couldn't afford the film. God bless you and your family!
ReplyDeleteJoan Harris(Murphy) born in Rainham, Essex,Uk 1926 searched the internet today for her cousin Jessie Nevin. Joan was very excited to find this page of Jessie's life. The last time Joan saw Jessie was in 1945 in Canvey Island before moving to Canada.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks from Joan for sharing these photos.
@Anonymous I was so excited to read your comment above on my husband's blog today and delighted to hear that Mum's cousin is looking for her. I will talk to Mum about Joan when I next see her in a few days time. If you would like to contact me my email address is live2paintuk(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk You need to substitute the usual @.. for the bracketed words as I have written it out in such a way as to try and avoid spam. Hope that's not too confusing. I have a blog too which you should be able to find in my husband's sidebar or google Julie Mackinder. I would love to make contact with Canadian cousins :-)
