While visiting Jessie in Southend hospital, we took time out to visit Southend Pier - which is the longest Pier in the World. = 1.33miles long.There's a train to the end - if you dont want to walk the length of the pier, some folk do of course like to trek to the end.
Once at the end, we took a few shots then boarded the train back, as it was too cold to stay awhile. To learn more about this Pier click HERE.

That is one long pier! I can understand why there is a train to take you to the end. It would probably be a nice walk, but not on a cold day.
Wow ! that's really very long ! I love piers very much, they remind me of my holidays in Eastbourne and also Brighton.

Must be the shortest train ride in England. Walking a mile would have warmed you up. Hope ML is feeling a lot better now.

Interesting set of photos in the post. It is the longest pier that I have seen but then I don't live near any water and there are no piers around here. The only ones I have seen were in Florida.
Wow---that is a LONG pier, Mac... I've never heard of one that long. It would be great exercise though walking out and back...2.66 miles is a pretty good hike!!!!!

How clever to have a train for a pier. A nice ride for those who want to enjoy it who can't walk too far. Hope mum-in-law is well on the road to recovery.
As I know you get around a bit and since I am poring over guidebooks trying to decide where to go this summer, I am flummoxed as to where "Southend" is. I may never know.
We are a day closer to figuring out our flights.
