Question - Morbid or not? -that is the Question... I myself find it interesting to roam around a grave yard and read the inscriptions on the different types of Headstones.
From the simple scratched on a rock face - to - the elaborate carvings.
I stand and ponder reading different headstones - losing myself in time - wondering and feeling - who and what these people were like, their backgrounds - and their sorrow.
I guess its like a history lesson in some way - of time that is past, the hardship, but love thats surrounds these headstones.
To be continued......
I like to walk around old grave yards. This one looks like it would be a good one. I bet you could take some really nice mono shots there too.
ReplyDeleteI always loved graveyards and reading gravestones. Have done more looking since my dad died and I was doing some genealogy of my "Whaley" family.. Love these photos!
ReplyDeleteI agree that roaming through an old cemetery is a lot like a history lesson. I think it's hard not to get lost in thoughts and images of the past. These are great photos.
ReplyDeleteI love reading gravestones. Maybe I'm a little morbid but they are fascinating ......
ReplyDeleteI do not think that is morbid at all. I used to want to go so that I could take black & whites of the sculptures, and then learn to draw them from the pictures. Unfortunately, I never followed through.
ReplyDeleteYou walk around old sections of graveyards and see within a few weeks whole families wiped out during flu epidemics. Or the father dying and the wife living another 30 ~ 40 years.
ReplyDeleteI try to imagine what their life was like.
ReplyDeleteHistory ... art ... I love it!
ReplyDeleteThese photos kinda make one reflect a bit on their life.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, Mac, I love walking around old cemeteries and reading about the people. I do always notice that so many people died at a young age--including children--back then. I have found that to be true also when I work on my Family History.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Betsy
My wife thinks I'm nuts to wander around graveyards but I agree with you and other posters here that it's fascinating to wonder about other people from other times. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteI have always enjoyed reading headstones; there is a lot of history in old cemeteries.
ReplyDeleteYou have captured some great images.
