I think this one is safe enough - perhaps he forgot to go back to his lair before the sun rose, or maybe he was a basilisk who caught sight of his own reflection in a puddle...but I'd probably go past it quietly and quickly just in case!
Like Fishing Guy I would go the other way but at a fast run! Actually it's a lovely piece of wood isn't it? I would love to sand it down and see the beauty underneath, but I suppose we have to see it for what it is on the outside, quite beautiful indeed.

in fact he is not sooo ugly he is different and people use to be afraid of what they suppose be different from themselves!
