Even the foreigners had some problems: My future wife and I visited London in 1970 with pounds, shilling and pence. When we had finally sorted all that out, we visited Edinburgh the year after - with only pounds and 100 new pence.
Hahaha ! that's funny ! fortunately I never had to deal with that and when I visited my son in London, one year after my first visit pounds changed to kgs etc. So it became very easy for me, but unfortunately not for the locals !
