Mmmmm, you do have to be *difficult* and make me like this one, now don't you? ,-) And of course, you have "mushed" with it. And I say I don't like any "mushing" with photos. -sigh- Never say never, hu? ,-)
I like this version. Even though they are blurred and thus are not distracting I would clone out the bottom of the two windows in the top left and center of the picture and then see how I liked the end result. The unaltered photos are more realistic and more suitable for photojournalism, while those with the blur are more artistic. Just my two cents.
I like the original the best. I don't really like either of those you tried to do something with the background. It might just be me but it looks wrong or artificial or something. If I had my "druthers" I would have picked the original.
You certainly picked a difficult subject to work with.
Selecting with any tool is difficult around all of those feathers. To tell the truth I’m not sure what I like. The unaltered shot is very sharp and the eyes certainly are the focal point of the shot. It would be a toss up for me of the unaltered or this last shot or perhaps to place him on an entirely different background
Hey, these are all pretty neat! I have to agree that the eyes are the centerpiece and this last photo really emphasizes that. But it does look more artistic than realistic. I can't decide!

Anyway, it's amazing.

The third time's a charm. i think you did a fantastic job of lasso-ing the subject.

WOW! Nice one!
I really like this one the best. He is so dramatic without the background details. Nice glow.
